Battle With The Bottle
Alcoholism is an illness. It damages the whole person – body, mind and spirit. It’s various stages generally preclude the possibility of self diagnosis and desire for recovery. In order to explore the causes and potential healing from the addiction of alcohol I’ll be talking with Noel, a recovered alcoholic. Join us and share in Noel’s journey from addiction to freedom.
Fitting In
According to the UN migration survey of 2005 Australia was amongst the top ten countries for it’s percentage of immigrants in it’s total population. Australia prides itself on being a successful multicultural society and in many areas you see an interesting and vibrant mix of racial backgrounds. But it’s also evident that some aren’t comfortable or even welcome in our society. Probably even more so amongst our indigenous people. Today Mark Doecke explores “Fitting In”
Taste And See
A teacher can prove that 2 plus 2 = 4. A scientist can demonstrate that two parts of hydrogen combined with one part of oxygen produces water. But who can prove mathematically or through a formula that there is love in the heart of a mother, beauty in a summer sky, or inspiration in a song? Some things can’t be proven in classrooms or laboratories. They can only be experienced in the language of the heart.
Good Touch
Technology has come a long way in the last 100 years. You can do just about anything you can dream of. If it hasn’t already been invented it’s probably just around the corner! Today my guest James Winderlich shares his experience with a programmable massage chair and asks the question – does it really replace a human touch?
Anxiety
Anxiety is a term that covers many fearful conditions such as phobias and obsessive compulsive disorders. A certain amount of nervous energy and fear is actually healthy and quite normal. But when these feelings take over and rule our life they need to be explored. It’s perhaps even more difficult to deal with when you have a belief in God. We may feel we don’t trust God enough. My guests today are Jenny and Steve who both suffer from anxiety and Julie who is a psychologist.
Cracked Mud, Starry Nights
In hard times; times of recession and uncertainty; of sickness and tragedy; times when we think no one cares, we can feel dry and empty. My guest today Trevor Keller likens it to staring into a cracked mud pan, where there’s no life and no hope. Stay with us as he tells the story of Caroline and the dramatic change that occurred in her life.
I Can’t Believe I Did It
When was the last time that you got really angry? How did you handle it? Poorly managed anger is the root cause of many serious physical, social, and emotional problems. Today I want to talk about managing anger and later I’ll be offering a free booklet that suggests some helpful ways to manage anger.
I Don’t Know Much
What do you know about mental illness? My guest today James Winderlich suggests most of us know very little. Rather than feeling compassion for someone suffering something like schizophrenia, bi polar and other acute conditions, we sometimes feel threatened and even offended. What fuels our fear and what can change?
Nobody Knows The Trouble I’ve Seen
There are times when coughs and colds, bronchitis and
asthma, severe sickness, stress and worry all seem to loom large on the horizon and threaten to take control of us. Children get on our nerves; their music blares at us and at times almost drives us up the wall; young people threaten to leave home. The threats of terrorist attacks, home invasions and the global financial crisis continue to be very real. And we don’t seem to be able to do much about them. Into our situations the loving and caring God speaks good news. He offers you and me a way to get on top of all those things that threaten to drag us down. Today I want to share this good news with you.
Love Is Best
Sometimes a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing. That’s true. It’s also true that knowledge can be used in different ways. Knowledge doesn’t always lead to a better life. It is often used to make life worse for others. So the big issue is how you choose to use your knowledge. Today on Face to Face my special guest, Brett Kennett, talks about how he once used knowledge in a hurtful way. He then goes on to compare knowledge and love and concludes that love is best.
